Hungarian low-cost air carrier Wizz Air transported 870,000 passengers to and from Bosnia and Serbia in 2016, local media reported on Tuesday.

The air carrier registered 545,000 passengers to and from Serbia's Belgrade and Nis in 2016, up 19% on the year, and 324,000 passengers from Bosnia's Tuzla, up 21% compared to a year earlier, news portal Ex-Yu Aviation reported.

By boosting frequencies this year and introducing new services, Wizz Air will offer 642,000 seats from the Serbian capital in 2017.

In Bosnia, Wizz will further expand this year with the introduction of a new two weekly service from Sarajevo to Budapest, while talks with Mostar Airport over possible flights are set to resume in the near future.
Overall, Wizz Air carried 23 million passengers in 2016 across its network, representing a 19% passenger growth year over year.

The airliner will expand throughout the Balkan region this year, by launching flights out of Bosnia's Sarajevo, Kosovo's Pristina and Albania's Tirana for the first time.
