Purchasing power of citizens in steep decline

Looking at the statistics, growth of the consumer basket price in the past five years is three times higher than the growth of average wage in that period.

In the specified time period, the average wage increased by 55 and consumer basket by 162 KM, Nezavisne Novine reports.

The average net salary in these years grew slowly, so that in 2010 it was 798, in 2011 828, in 2012 831, 2013 838, in 2014 it was 843, in 2015 it dropped to 842 KM, and finally last year jumped to 853 KM.

At the same time, according to the Confederation of Trade Unions of Republika Srpska, consumer basket for a family of four in December 2010 amounted to 1.706 KM, and the average salary paid in the same month covered it with 46.8 percent.

“As the cost of living in the meantime increased, consumer basket in 2016 amounted to 1,868.06 KM and is more expensive by 162 KM compared to a basket in 2010. The average salary in the Republika Srpska in December last year amounted to 835 KM and covered the basket with only 44.7 percent,” explained Bozana Radosevic, senior associate for economic issues in the Union.

She said that the citizens’ purchasing power is decreasing, which is why they are forced to buy less food and save in every way.
