Bosanska Dubica, a small municipality in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has recently become very popular among investors.
In addition to local companies, businessmen from Turkey, Italy and Germany want to operate in Dubica, so they will soon start producing prefabricated houses and containers, gherkins, protective equipment and medical apparel, as well as processing wood.
German company Carl Kühne announced the purchase of four parcels on which it plans to produce gherkins.
“They are already present here, they are cooperating with local manufacturers and have a distribution center from which products are sent to Germany. Now they want to produce here, collect, pack and send to market. The auction for the land will be held on February 20, and everything should start in spring,” said Emir Kocan, chief of the Department of Economics in the municipality of Bosanska Dubica.
The Municipality is also hoping to reach an agreement with the company from Tunisia, which produces safety equipment and medical apparel, and with the Italians who are interested in processing wood.
“The company for safety equipment is choosing one of the three countries in which they will build a plant; Romania, Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it would be best for them to choose us because there is a similar Italian company here, which is third in the world; it would also suit them geographically, we have two weaving mills in BiH. We are waiting for their call and doing our best to attract them,” says the Mayor.
5,000 people are currently unemployed in Bosanska Dubica, and 3,000 of them are actively looking for work. Mayor points out that expectations would be met if at least 500 people get jobs.
