Management of Public Company FBiH Highways adopted a decision to initiate procedure of building a tunnel Prenj between Konjic and Mostar, as well as Mostar bypass.

The recent adoption of the Spatial Plan met all the conditions for the start of construction of these two projects.

The total value of the construction of the two sections from Konjic to the south of Mostar is around 550 million Euros.

Only the construction of the tunnel Prenj will cost about 400 million KM, making it the most expensive structure ever built in BiH.

The tunnel will be 10 kilometers long, and currently the longest tunnel in BiH, Vijenac, is about 3 kilometers long, whose construction was about 120 million KM.

By comparison, construction of Bosmal City Center in Sarajevo cost 160 million KM.

According to previously adopted Decision of the FBiH Government, model “Finance-Design-Build” for the tunnel Prenj and Mostar North – Mostar South represents an additional source of funding, in addition to the traditional way through the international financial institutions.

This means they will be looking for a company which will find sources of financing the construction by itself, which will subsequently become FBiH’s debt.

– This model of financing allows double inflow of funds which will significantly speed up the construction of Corridor Vc. When designing and building the tunnel Prenj and shares Mostar North – Mostar South, FBiH Highways proposed provision that at least 40 percent of the contracted value of the project get implemented by domestic companies – the FBiH Highways pointed out.

By making such decision, the FBiH Government will take an active role in all phases of the implementation of these two projects, and call for tender, while the FBiH Highways will be the holder of all technical activities.

Construction of the Mostar North – Mostar South section, and Prenj tunnel, should start in spring 2018.
