Construction of hydroelectric power plant Vranduk starts

Construction of hydroelectric power plant Vranduk has officially started near Bosnian town of Zenica.

This is the first big project implemented by BiH Public Enterprise Electric Utility (Elektroprivreda BiH) in the post-war period.

Companies Strabag (Austria) and Koncar (Croatia) officially started working today on the construction site, after the ceremony attended by state and entity officials. The contract is worth 112.3 million KM (56 million Euros).

The Executive Director for capital investment of the Elektroprivreda BiH Senad Salkic said at the ceremony that the construction of HPP Vranduk will ensure energy stability.

Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Federation of BiH Nermin Dzindic in his address pointed out that Bosnia uses less than 50 percent of hydropower potential.

FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalic said that energy independence is of great importance for BiH.

HPP Vranduk will have installed capacity of 19.6 MW and will produce 100 GWh of electricity per year.

This project is funded by Elektroprivreda BiH, European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Completion is planned for 11 November 2019.
