A factory in Republika Srpska is producing two pairs of shoes for Donald Trump's Slovenian-born wife, Melania, ‘as sign of support … in the upcoming elections.’
Melania Trump, wife of the firebrand Republican candidate in the US Presidential elections, is probably not short of footware – but that hasn't stopped a clothing firm in Republika Srpska, the Serb-dominated entity in Bosnia, from adding to her collection.
Marinko Umicevic, technical director of Bema, told Nezavisne novine daily on Wednesday that his shoe idea was “motivated by patriotic reasons and by a belief that the dirty campaign against Melania Trump and her husband is underway”.
Melania, who was recently under the spotlight for alleged plagiarism in her speech at the Republican Party convention – which also triggered claims that her university degree was false – is in line for a pair of comfortable shoes with memory foam insoles so that “Melania can walk across America,” the factory said in a statement.
A second pair of shoes will be leather-made high heels, designed by Bema’s best designers, so that Melania can “victoriously walk in the White House, wearing them,” the factory said.
Many Serbs in the Balkans are rooting strongly for the Trump camp in the elections, partly out of resentment towards Hillary Clinton whose husband, Bill, intervened militarily in the Kosovo confllict in the late 1990s.
NATO-led air strikes helped terminate Serbian rule over what was then Serbia's southern province. Trump's denunciations of Muslims and warm words for Russia, Serbia's traditional ally, are other factors in deciding their White House preferences.
