BiH Prosecutor's Office suspended the investigation against Almir Merdic (41) from Jelah, one of the main suspects in the attack on the Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksanda Vucic after the commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, RTRS reports.
Merdic confirmed that the investigation against him has been suspended. The Prosecution of BiH stated that they can not provide information on this case before Monday.
Serbia's Prime Minister was chased out of a ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica on 11 July last year. A number of people started throwing stones, shoes and bottles as members of the Serbian delegation were placing lilies on the memorial.
Vucic was hit on the head by a stone and had his glasses broken. Serbia's officials described the attack as an “assassination attempt.”
Serbian foreign minister Ivica Dacic said today that the news on the suspension of investigation shows that “Bosniak politicians were behind the attack”. He said that, not only they did nothing to find and prosecute the attackers and organizers, but “they did everything to protect them”.
