As part of the support to agricultural production in the eastern BiH region Birac, the US humanitarian agency Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has enabled the participation of local companies and cooperatives from the Birac region at the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin from 7 to 11 February.
Representatives of six companies and cooperatives from the Birac region – Hana Srebrenica Regional Advisory Service (RSSB), MB Fruits and Agros DS from Bratunac, Morel and Galja from Zvornik, went to Berlin.
The goal is to present local companies and cooperatives to potential buyers of agricultural products, to get to know about global market trends, link with particular value chains of agricultural products.
Fruit Logistica is the largest and most important fair of fresh fruits and vegetables, where buyers from the EU present their mission and plans. It is also an excellent opportunity for BiH companies and cooperatives to connect with them. Project associate, Development Center Agronet Banja Luka, will conduct bilateral meetings of BiH participants with potential buyers.
In late January, the fair participants from BiH were informed of ways to be more successful at the fair, and created the profiles of their companies in the online database of the fair.
CRS has recognized the potential in the field of agriculture in the Birac region for development of more efficient projects, with a focus on the development of two value chains, for raspberries and gherkins. These projects will contribute to greater and more efficient production of these two cultures in less developed rural areas of the Birac region, through solving key problems, such as inadequate and unsustainable production methods that prevent many families from producing sufficient yields and providing income for life, the CRS said.
